Yukata Inspired 2024A Creative Collaboration between Okan Arts & Danaca Design
Danaca Design Gallery, Seattle
By Patricia Belyea
SEATTLE WA Who is Dana Cassara? First and foremost, Dana is a longtime friend of Okan Arts. As the founder/owner of Danaca Design, she has personally taught an army of wanna-be jewelers their craft as well as imported top teachers from around the globe to lead advanced classes.
A nerve-center for all things jewelry-related, Danaca Design has developed a remarkable community of metalwork and jewelry artisans in the Northwest.
In June 2023, I got together with Dana to hand-off 21 one-yard pieces of vintage Japanese yukata cotton. These hand-dyed textiles were destined to be delivered to independent jewelry artisans as a catalyst for an upcoming exhibit.
The show, Yukata Inspired 2024, just opened last week in the Danaca Design Gallery! The remarkable exhibit includes jewelry, panels of yukata cotton, and ten collages made with snippets of the yukata cottons.
Here’s a peek into the Gallery right before the show opened:
And here are close-ups of some of the jewelry with their yukata cotton muses:
Wow! Yukata cottons have inspired me and many quilt makers in their creative journeys. I love seeing them inspire artists in other mediums!
