The July Yukata Quilting Workshop in La Conner focused on creativity, curves and yukata cottons. But it was the smiles on the faces of the 13 participants that were the greatest curves of all!

In the first two days, each student designed and sewed their own version of a four-quadrant curved quilt top. Then they advanced to make full compositions that included curved piecing.

The venue, La Conner Country Inn, provided a spacious workroom and nearby nook for a pop-up shop that offered hundreds of bolts of vintage Japanese yukata cotton.

Better yet, we were in the small town of La Conner, on the Swinomish Channel, where we could walk to everything! Three blocks away, the regional quilt museum in the ornate Gaches Mansion welcomed us with three floors of exhibits. Behind the boutiques and cafes on the main street, an inviting boardwalk stretched the length of downtown. And the sun set at 9pm for super-long, light-filled, summer days.

Does adding curves to your quilting projects—of your own design and as flat as can be—sound appealing? Check for an online workshop with Patricia that matches your calendar. See you there!
