Quilt by Patricia Belyea
56" x 56"

The Japanese flock to see the cherry  blossoms, known as sakura, in early spring. They adore the clouds of delicate pink overhead and see the season as a new beginning—a time for optimism and hope.

This quilt is just plain boisterous. I had great fun slicing into the solid-colored cottons and adding the maverick white stripes. All three patterned yukata cottons, although vintage, add a modern vibe. The backing fabric is filled with memories. It’s made from a used yukata I bought in Kyoto and took apart and cut up. Hand-stitching, with white perle cotton, I echoed the shapes of the floral patterns.

Sakura Spring was featured in Patricia’s book, East-Meets-West Quilts, as a project with instructionsMade with vintage yukata cottons, sourced in Japan by Patricia, plus contemporary solids.

The quilt, signed with Patricia’s applique´signature, comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a custom linen bag. Shipping and insurance are free to a domestic US address.
