special gifts at a secret shop

By Patricia Belyea

LA CONNER WA  One of the best kept secrets in the historic waterfront town of La Conner is The Museum Shop at La Conner Quilt & Textile Museum. This week, Jacque Chase, the retail manager, showed me her top picks for Christmas gifts.

Jacque raved about origami ornaments made by Museum volunteers sparkling with unique button embellishments; a sterling silver Thimble Bell charm with a threaded needle for the clanger and a spool of thread on the link; and hand-dyed silk ribbons for crazy quilt embroidery.

My favorites were a sock monkey made from a bright orange and yellow striped sock; intriguing Fabric Jewels by Meg Hannan; and lots of quilting books.

Additional fabrics include marbled cottons by Suzi Soderlund; airbrushed silks by Flair Designs; aboriginal cottons from Australia, and more. Also The Shop also sells one-yard pieces of my hand-dyed yukata cottons, displayed on an impressive vertical rack.

If you can make it to the Museum this holiday season, be sure to stop by The Museum Shop on the second floor of the historic Gaches Mansion.

Hi: I am most interested in your quilt retreat with Joe Cunningham (or whomever you are choosing) for next year. I am writing from Florida, but I love the PNW. could you keep me on your mailing list, so that I don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Your pix from this year look just wonderful. Please let me know how I can keep abreast of the dates to sign up. thanks, Lenore

Lenore, I will put you on the Pre-sale List for the 2015 Quilt Retreat with Joe Cunningham. You will have the opportunity to register for the Retreat (that sold out quickly last year) before registration opens to the general public. Since you want to learn about more learning opportunities from Okan Arts, I will put you on the e-news list to receive monthly updates. Thanks for asking, P.
