She is the person who taught me how to do hand embroidery.

  126. Marsha Clarke says:

I have always tried to include hand stitching, whether it be embroidery, big stitch quilting or buttons/beads to my quilts. I often combine these techniques with machine stitching. I find it soothes my soul, promotes a feeling of peacefulness and differentiates my quilts when I add in hand stitching. It’s like putting my own stamp on a quilt and my quilts never feel fully finished until I add in a little bit of stitchery. I have always admired Sue’s work and stitching and I was so pleased when she came out with a line of perle cotton, as prior to this it was hard to find perle cotton in bright colors and muted shades.

I have not yet started quilting, so this will be a new adventure for me. I only wish I were retired so I could spend more time stitching!

I’m extremely passionate about adding embroidery and embellishments to my quilts and clothing. I realized after doing a talk about this subject at our quilt show, that I have always added a little bit of ‘something’ to my quilts, even before it was popular to do it. I would add a bit of embroidery to embellish and have a true love of anything that will had a bit of sparkle to my projects, whether it’s beading (have a wall hanging that is heavily beaded), sparkly thread, crystals, and other things. Sue Spargo;s method just gave me the ‘permission’ to really go for it and I have never looked at quilts the same way again.

    Love all things Sue Spargo!

Just so happens a friend took me to Sue’s new store opening and I am once again doing needle work, coincidence? I think not.
