schack art center: book art
By Patricia Belyea
EVERETT WA Reading Christina Erickson’s blog, Fiber Artist Journey, this morning gave me the inspiration to head up to Everett and visit Schack Art Center. I went believing I would see a fiber show by the Surface Design Association of Whidbey Island.
The exhibit had changed and, to my pleasure, I saw a remarkable collection of art books and art made from books. The creativity of the pieces on display ranged from coffee filter books to out-of-this world pop-ups to stitched productions that folded down into custom boxes. Embellishments, high craftsmanship, poetic subtleties and intriguing content added depth to the viewing experience.
The Art Center’s store presented crafted items by local artisans. The quality and diversity of the products made me recognize that Everett has a thriving arts community.
To treat Michael for accompanying me north, I promised a latte at the best coffeeshop in town. Regretfully all the recommended ones, per Yelp, were either closed on Sunday or out of business. That gave a minor strike against the town.
Back in Seattle, we stopped at Aster in Ballard for coffee. Delight came crashing back into our lives with our fun latte art created by the barista.
