satin moon quilt shop
By Patricia Belyea
VICTORIA BC Satin Moon, Victoria’s renowned quilting shop, was bustling when I arrived this morning. With just interfacing on my list, I didn’t get tempted by the vast assortment of colorful fabrics.
Talking with owner Linda Rafuse, I learned that Victoria is hotbed of pattern designers. Her shop stocks patterns from these local designers, including a special section filled with patterns by Ursula Riegel.
Linda has her sewing table set up by the front windows of the store. Her goal is to sew for an hour every day—keeping up with her love of quilting. “Generally people are fascinated” Linda commented on her live display of piecing together a quilt top.
Over a dozen classes are offered during the first quarter of the year. Plus four different clubs meet up in the shop’s classroom. And the Satin Moom has an online store with a full selection of goods for those who can’t make it to the brick-and-mortar shop.
This Friday Linda and her gang are hosting a Customer Appreciation Day with some special deals, coffee and cookies, and door prizes. They are inviting customers to bring in show-n-tell projects so they can see what happens with all the quilting supplies they send out into the world!
