Quilt by Patricia Belyea
72" x 72"
The Chinese concept of yin and yang was introduced in Japan at the beginning of the sixth century. The duality of yin and yang represents perfect balance with two contrasting forces complementing each other to become a greater whole.
On the quilt front of Yin Yang, I played with angled seams to create fluctuating nine-patch blocks. Complex forms emerged when I conjoined angled solids. A reversible quilt, I filled the back of the quilt with the same fabrics, puzzled together with angled seams. The big-stitch quilting pattern I fondly nicknamed Flight of the Bumblebee as it energetically zips around the composition.
Yin Yang was featured in Patricias book, East-Meets-West Quilts, as a project with instructions. Made with contemporary Japanese cottons and contemporary solids.
The quilt, signed with Patricia applique´signature, comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a custom linen bag. Shipping and insurance are free to a domestic US address.
