I know there are so many people who find the upcoming holiday season as a very stressful time. Me on the other hand enjoy the sounds, smells and excitement of the Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season.
I long ago gave up my holiday gift buying stress to making handmade gifts and spending time with family and friends. My family hosts a large (about 50+ people) friends and family day dinner at a rented hall, enjoy the happenings and play games for small or handmade gifts ($10 max). Everyone looks forward to this yearly event. We went from bingo to trivia 2 yrs ago so the youngest members could answer questions and win for their team. I look forward to this event every year.

This is a hard holiday for us, as we suffered an unexpected loss last year at this time. What I’m looking forward to is finding a way to memorialize someone dearly loved and missed every day in a way that will bring the happy memories into our holiday. That’s not easy, especially the first year. But I’m hoping I’ll find a way to add some small bit of comfort to his wife’s celebration, to the hearts of his daughter and son, and to share with his mother and brother–like a second family to me–memories of the little boy we treasured and the man he became.
