november giveaway
by Patricia Belyea
SEATTLE WA This month’s two-part giveaway is a throw-sized package of Silk Batting from Hobbs Tuscany Collection and one yard of vintage Japanese yukata cotton with a bird of paradise flower pattern.
I love silk batting for three reasons: 1/ It’s light as angel wings—perfect for someone who says that quilts are too heavy and hot. 2/ Whether hand- or machine-stitching, my needles move through the batting effortlessly. 3/ What a great compliment to my Japanese cottons!
The vintage yukata cotton is hand-dyed using the chusen process. That means the pattern shows up as vividly on the back as on the front of the panel.
To participate, just leave a comment below. The drawing for the giveaway will be held at midnight on November 30. The prize will then be shipped anywhere in the world.
(The winner is chosen with a random number drawing.)
I had never seen these amazing Japanese fabrics until I visited The Quilting Loft in Ballard last summer. Needless to say, choosing which ones to buy took a long time and a few visits back to the shop. Oh, My. I love them all..I would love to try the silk batting. I’ve never seen it either.
Me too!

I just found your blog and what a wonderful treat on your part to offer such a give away. Would love to win!
I live 1/2 time in Kailua and 1/2 time In Washington state. My Oahu home has lots of wall space that cries for tropical themed art. I have already put up several painted tropical flower quilted art pieces but I have been looking for a bird of paradise for the pale green living room wall. I also take classes one day a week in Honolulu to become a better hand applique artist. The November prize would be PERFECT for me.
It would be wonderful to change my “never-a-winner” record with this gorgeous fabric and the silk batting (even the name sounds luscious!).
Your materials are so beautiful. I just love to look at the few that I have.

Ooooh, the colors in this fabric are luscious! It’s so dimensional, it seems I could actually pick the flower! I’d love to win and make something beautiful with it.
I am looking for the asanoha patterned cotton fabric in white design on black in the larger version. The size I’d like would have about a 5.5 cm measurement across the flower’s diameter. Please let me know if you have this gorgeous fabric which has added pop to many of my quilts.
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity, and for the opportunity to purchase Japanese fabrics close to home!
Linda, can you send me a photo? Thanks, P.

I had a beautiful Okan yukata cotton on hand when I helped my 9 yo granddaughter make a short kimono top when she visited this past summer. I received the sweetest thank you note from her in which she said she wears the kimono often. She looked quite adorable in it. We also stamped and dyed fabric. If I won the Hobbs, I would use the silk batting to make a quilt for her using the fabric she created. The yard of Japanese fabric would get put to good use also.
Each wall hanging I make with your yukata fabric is lovelier than the one before. This bird of paradise fabric is stunning!
