Students at Okan Arts Shopraving quilters

“I have taken so many quilting classes over the years, it takes a lot to get me into a new one. Patricia’s Doodle Piecing class was such a one. The technique will allow me to create my own style using the big-print Asian and dramatic fabrics that I love.

Patricia’s teaching style is friendly and process-focused with guaranteed flat results. It was a pleasure to work in her cozy studio/classroom and she kept us happy with coffee and chocolate. I’m well on my way to a first quilt with this process and look forward to many more.

“Patricia’s classes were just what I needed: hands-on instruction with just a few students in each class. I got lots of personal attention, and she had great samples to show. The samples really helped me visualize the techniques we were learning. For someone who is fairly familiar with sewing, but not as familiar with quilting, Patricia’s easy-going and fun lessons helped me immensely.”

I have sewn all my life, and can honestly say I learned some new tricks. Patricia’s classes are intense and full of practical advice. She is articulate and moves through her material with purpose. But, it is her ability to meet you where you are as an artist-craftsperson that really makes her an effective teacher. Whether you just like to make things, or you want your pieces to be show-ready, she can give you the tools to support your vision.

At her studio and shop, Okan Arts, Patricia has created the perfect storm in which to share her knowledge and enthusiasm for quilting. Her detailed instructions on sewing techniques, best practices, and her professional design sense combine to make an enjoyable, lively, and very worthwhile workshop. And, those beautiful yukata cottons! Even if you don’t use them in your project, they are a treat to see and feel.”

Wow — what a fun and fabulous three days of quilting! I walked into Patricia’s studio on Day One with five beautiful fabrics and a picture in my mind of a meadow with a creek and wildflowers. Over the next 20 hours, I learned how to cut the fabric, combine the squares, piece them, and add the backing, batting, and binding. At the end of Day Three, I walked out with a quilt that was way beyond my expectations. Patricia is such a great teacher — open to new ideas, very artistic, a great explainer, calm, patient and with a terrific sense of fun.
