july 2014 giveaway

by Patricia Belyea

SEATTLE WA  Two factors influence my choice of batting:
Performance  I use battings that are easy to stitch—by machine or hand. Many of my quilts are stitched-in-the-ditch by machine, and then hand quilted with a big needle and heavy No 8 perle cotton thread.
The Look  I’m a low-loft kind of quilter as I don’t like making puffy quilts. Flatter quilts look more modern to me.

This package of queen-size cotton batting—90″ x 108″ —is made by Hobbs, the leading US batting manufacturer. The 100% natural cotton has a soft drape. It’s needle punched for additional strength and can be quilted up to 4″ apart.

You can win this batting by adding a comment to this blog. The drawing will take place at midnight PST on July 31, 2014. The batting will then be mailed anywhere in the world.

I will be in Victoria at the very beginning of September to spread my dad’s ashes in Victoria Harbour. His birthday is September 4, so it will be that weekend.

What a great giveaway, a quilter always needs more batting. I haven’t tried Hobbs 100% cotton so I’d love the chance to try it. Thank you also for having the giveaway open to everyone in the world. And while I’ve got the chance to leave a comment I can let you know I always enjoy visiting your blog.

I saw your post about coming to Victoria in September. I hope you’ll have time to meet for coffee. You’re welcome to stay with me if you need a place too. Still haven’t decided what to do with my collection of yukata cottons, but I take them out and touch and dream about them a lot. Miss you!

    • Patricia Belyea says:

Thanks Cathy. I’ll be traveling with my twin so I’m unsure of our schedule. (Here’s a hint for how to use your yukata cottons—pair them with modern solids. I’ve been doing that recently and having a lot of fun.)

I am so excited to visit your new pop up store in Ballard. I first saw your beautiful fabrics at the Stashfest in La Conner, and was overwhelmed by the vibrant colors, and just wasn’t able make a decision, because I think I want them all! Thank you for the opportunity to try out your favorite batting!

    • Patricia Belyea says:

Sid—I’m thrilled that The Quilting Loft in Ballard is hosting my pop-up shop this summer. As I am gone all of July and most of August, it gives yukata cotton seekers a way to access my inventory. Since StashFest, I have added over 100 bolts to my inventory—lots more colors and patterns!
