the first inserted curves workshop

the first inserted curves workshop

By Patricia Belyea

KAILUA-KONA HI  I taught my first Inserted Curves Workshop last week on the Big Island of Hawaii. Thirteen enthusiastic quilters signed up to learn something new. So how did my inaugural Workshop go?

Let me set the scene: The Workshop spanned two days. The host shop Quilt Passions rented an empty storefront two doors down and filled the space with design walls, ironing stations, and worktables. Not only were lunches catered and many sewing machines supplied, a platter of homemade cookies appeared daily.

We moved gently through the Inserted Curves technique—being mindful of how colors and designs were developing. Each person drew her own curved line work and carefully sewed her composition together—sometimes using partial seams. All the participants were pleased with their learnings but no one finished a quilt top. (The Workshop Sample is at left.)

Here are the smiles of the intrepid Inserted Curves explorers:

Everyone learned the Inserted Curves technique with aplomb. Now they have the ability to piece curved line work into their future quilt designs!
