VICTORIA BC When I was at Spring Quilt Market in Minneapolis in 2010, I attended the fabulous Moda dinner. At my table were three of that year’s national winners of the Better Homes & Gardens top quilt shops.
I asked them why they thought their stores won the high distinction. Essentially all the quilt store owners gave me the same answer: create delight with customers beyond selling them fabric.
Today I returned to Satin Moon Quilt Shop in Victoria to attend its Customer Appreciation Day. The day included discounts on fabrics, coffee and LU cookies with the dark chocolate on the biscuits, fabric giveaways and a door prize.
Customers were invited to bring a quilt project for Show ’N Tell. Jackie Docherty, a British gal who is living in Victoria for the year, displayed her very first quilt that she made in Susan McGregor’s Embellished Landscapes class. Margo Piikkila, an avid quilter, showed us block after block that she’s made with modern fabrics. I shared three quilt blocks I made in my hotel room this week and a few bolts of yukata cottons.
The energy of the shop was delightful. It was fun to meet new people and see their creative projects. Satin Moon shone today with its generous spirit.
