armchair travel: JAPAN in january 2021

Patricia Belyea of Okan Arts invites you to join her on a virtual quilting and textile tour—COVID-style—to Japan:

Tokyo Quilt Festival & More Japanese Textiles Treasures

Featured Zoom Talk
Road to California (Road@Home)
Friday, January 22
9:30-11am Pacific Time

Our first stop is the Tokyo Quilt Festival where Patricia shares her favorite exhibits from the last decade.

Next we visit a chusen-dyeing workshop, the quirky Blue & White shop, and Akie Ginza’s Sashiko Museum—all in the Tokyo area.

We then head into the mountains to see the fabled Itchiku Kubota Museum filled with its remarkable kimono collection.

The Shinkansen (Bullet Train) whisks us to Arimatsu, the home of shibori dyeing, and on to Kyoto.

In the historic city of Kyoto, we stop by the Misuyabari Needle Shop, Kobo Aizen, and the Nishijin Textile Center.

A side trip takes us into the countryside for botanical dyeing in the town of Ohara.

We also squeeze in a temple flea market and an overnight stay at a ryokan.

The talk ends with a 15-minute Q&A session.

I would like to know how long will be your talk about Japan. Will it be recorded? I have a big time difference. Thank you. Lucia

I heard that the National Quilt Show in Japan will no longer be happening. Is it true that 2021 is the last show?
