the aha of curves
By Patricia Belyea
LA CONNER WA Once again I had the opportunity to teach a cadre of quilters how to design and sew complex curves. The most fun at the Workshop was seeing the lightbulbs turn on as students gained confidence in their new curves skill set. And watching the design walls fill with big blocks of curved piecing!
Most of the students came to learn to curved piecing. Others were seeking inspiration or just to get sewing again. All of them were interesting and engaged. A great group!
Here are pics of some of the makers and their curved projects:
It was a glorious week in historic La Conner. We managed to be blessed with no rain as we enjoyed cool autumn days.
Lunches were catered on site. Then each evening we walked to restaurants within a short distance of The Country Inn.
For longer walks on our own, we could stroll the boardwalk alongside the Swinomish Canal and see blue herons, kingfishers, and the ubiquitous seagulls.
If you are interested in attending a Curves and Composition Workshop in La Conner, the next one is July 2019. +click to learn more
I am also teaching an Inserted Curves Workshop in Feb 2019 on the Hood Canal WA. To learn about Inserted Curves +click here

Just have to say how beautiful, how inspiring are all the examples you posted! Plenty of eye candy to feast on!
Arlene—In self-selecting the workshop, all the participants are just the right people to be there! PB
Oh how I would love to come and play in your neighborhood for awhile!
Brenda—We look forward to welcoming you to a workshop in La Conner. PB
Beautiful work.
wonderful to revisit an inspirational week, learning new design and fabric ideas. Can’t decide whether to bat my piece or just use an upholstery type fabric to provide stability for hanging. \
I hope to see you in Tokyo next January…..I will be at the New Sanno hotel for the week.
There are some wonderful color and fabric combinations amongst the student works. It inspires me to get busy with my Yukata stash.
