this is just a test

SEATTLE WA This project started in June when I attended Botanical Colors Indigo Workshop and dyed yards of yukata cotton in the brackish blue dye. With this jean-colored cotton, I made up 6″ triangle blocks as a background fabric for a quilt experiment.
My idea was to cut into a precisely pieced block and inset colored curved lines. I chose three values of green Kona cotton and a red hand-dyed Kona cotton from Quilts of Color.
Once I completed the initial block, I bordered it with more indigo triangle blocks. The quilting combined stitch-in-the-ditch on every seam and hand-stitching with No. 8 perle cotton to extend the arcs into closed curves.
I plan to do a much larger version (4′ x 6′) of this piece. Now that I know my idea is possible, I’m ready to cut into the second one.
